Kayak adventure on Muya and Vitim River

 

Explore the mountains in the watershed of the Vitim River, some distance north-east of Lake Baikal. Enjoy the immeasurable Siberian wilderness and it’s high mountains, forests and unspoiled rivers. You will be travelling with up to five enthousiastic companions.

The start is at the town of Taksimo. We go down Muya River by kayak, reach the Vitim River and head northwards into the Severomuyskiy Mountainrange, where the boats are carried past the Param Rapids. Reaching the Oron Lake, we will walk up one of the surrounding mountains if conditions allow. The finish is marked by the town of Bodaybo, where we can look back at a journey of 500 kilometers.

The Muya is a shallow river with sandbanks that need carefull navigation. Vitim River has three passages to be categorised as III that can be walked along the riverbank, or paddled by the more experienced kayakker. Temperatures vary from 0 to 25 degrees Celcius. Musquitoes will be less from the end of August.

Skills : moderate outdoor – and kayak experience, capable of walking six hours a day in rolling terrain

Degree of difficulty : class III whitewater. Walks classified as 5 on a scale from 1 to 5

Time span : 10 days, of which 8 days in the outdoors

Dates : 15 – 25 August / 27 August to 5 September

Size of the group : up to five participants, private guiding by request
